Civil War assignments – Due Monday October 13th

1. Bar graph showing number of battles that occurred in each state
  • Graph must be on graph paper
  • Must include the key on your graph.
  • Once you have plotted the numbers of battles, you must color each bar according to type of state:

          _________ = Union

          _________ = Confederate

          _________ = Border state (MO, KY, WV, MD)

          _________ = Territories (Idaho, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and North Dakota)

2. Using the Union soldiers per state information, plot the following on the map:

           _________ = Less than 3,000 troops

           _________ = 3,000 – 17,000 troops

           _________ = 20,000 - 50,000 troops

           Orange        = 55,000 – 88,000 troops

          _________ = 90,000 – 110,000 troops

          _________ = 145,000 – 200,000 troops

          _________ = 258,000 – 450,000 troops

  • To get the troop numbers for each state, you will need to use the numbers from the “Aggregate Furnished” column.
  • You must include this map key above the map.
  • You will not need to use the “Colored Troops” information for this activity.
  • For Georgia and Virginia which did not have totals, you can assume they are both less than 3,000 troops.
  • For “Indian Nations”, you may color “Indian Territory” the correct color
  • Since Washington, D.C. is not included on your map, you will need to simply write “Washington, D.C. = _____ ” towards the bottom of the map
