Children & Family Ministry

The journey of faith begins with water and the word. God makes eternal promises in baptism, and parents promise to make their home a faith-forming center. To schedule a baptism, or to learn more about baptism, please contact the church office.

Parents who are expecting as well as parents of young babies and toddlers are invited to this milestone class. A faith chest will be given to each family that attends. The purpose of the faith chest is to store keepsakes, and baptismal reminders such as baptismal candle, crosses, baptism gifts, and other items of significance as the child grows.

Preschool

Teaching young children to pray is both a privilege and responsibility of parents. That is why we are excited to partner with families in order to help them make prayer a comfortable and normal part of the life of your young children. Each child receives a prayer pillow and blessing during the worship service.

Kindergarten/First Grade

This milestone is an intentional invitation saying “You and your child are welcome here.” Families will explore worship and the worship space. And will receive a copy of “Kids in Divine Worship” which contains explanations of the different items you see in the sanctuary (pulpit, altar, candles, etc).

All Ages

This milestone gives us an opportunity to discover God’s presence with us at home, school, and work, and to be reminded that Jesus is with us always.

Second/Third Grade

As 2nd & 3rd graders learn to read, the Bible becomes an important book for them and their family to be familiar with and utilize at home. This milestone equips parents to help their kids explore the sacred Scriptures and is followed by a special worship blessing.

Fourth Grade

This milestone gives parents an opportunity to discuss money management with their child, share some key Scripture verses with them concerning money management, and establish some guidelines for giving, saving, and spending. Each child that participates will receive their own “give”, “save”, “spend” jars.

Fifth/Sixth Grade

Parents and students will have the opportunity to see how technology and social media intersect with faith development.

Fifth-Eighth Grade

Each spring, parents and students will be led through first communion instruction by Pastor Roggow. Parents and students in 5th – 8th grade are invited to participate in this class when the student is ready.

Eighth Grade

Confirmation is part of a person’s baptismal journey. It is not a graduation, but rather it marks the beginning of a new chapter in the life of faith. As a vitally important milestone, this celebration includes the congregation, families, and all those who have been involved in nurturing faith in these young people.

Learning to drive is an exciting time in the life of a family as it gives teens the opportunity to gain more freedom and responsibility. In this milestone, high school families discuss freedom, responsibility, and what Scripture has to say about how we handle them.
